Worm Charmers At The Ready For The 34th Annual World Championships

wormThe 34th World Worm Charming Championships are being held on Saturday 22nd June 2013 at Willaston County Primary School, Willaston, Nantwich.

The Worm Charming event was first devised by Mr John Bailey who was the deputy headmaster of Willaston County Primary School from 1961 to 1983. It was intitally designed as a fund raising event incorporated into the School Fete in back in 1980.

The plots originally were only 3 yards square, but this size was increased to 3 metres square, to bring the championships in line with EEC requirements, also starting with only 100 plots after several years was increased to 144 to accommodate additional competitors who compete on behalf of various charities.
