A week long man hunt across Cheshire and North Wales has ended in success as Peter Watton was taken into custody by Cheshire Police on Thursday 20th June.
Watton, had been living in Crewe before being jailed in 2010.
Watton, who was jailed for six years in 2010 at Chester Crown Court for robbery and kidnap, was released on licence from HMP Risley, near Warrington.
It was reported that he had breached his licence conditions and was wanted on a recall to prison.
Watton who had links to Chester and Crewe was wanted by police to be questioned about an attack that had taken place on a 44 year old woman in woodland at the Handbridge area of Chester on June 14th.
He was finally apprehended by police near the English/Welsh border alongside the A483 Chester to Wrexham road at 9.45pm on Thursday evening.
There was also a large police presence during Friday in the nearby towns of Cefn-Y-Bedd, Gwersyllt and Llay, where police were continuing their enquiries.
37 year old Watton appeared in Chester magistrates court this morning (June 22nd) and has been charged with:-
Rape of a woman (8 counts)
Assault of a woman by penetration (2 counts) and Kidnap & False Imprisonment.
The woman is currently being supported by trained police officers.
