Social Workers, Managers and Trustees at Voluntary Adoption Agency, Adoption Focus, are celebrating after the adoption service has been rated as Outstanding in all areas, in their recent 2013 Ofsted Inspection.
The inspection was conducted in February 2013, and the formal report has just been issued to announce the outcome.
Anna Sharkey, CEO of Adoption Focus commented: ‘We are very proud of our achievement. This shows that the service we provide is considered to be outstanding by people who want to adopt; by the social workers seeking new families for children; and by the children.
It means that the team is happy to work here because they know they are doing a good job – and everyone was pleased to be able to tell Ofsted.’
Adoption Focus became operational in June 2009. It has been inspected on two occasions since then, and both Inspections have rated the adoption service as ‘Outstanding’.
The service is building on its success, and has recruited additional staff to increase the numbers of adoptive parents it can support into adoptive family life.
‘We have placed 87 children in 59 families in the last (almost) 4 years. This number is growing quickly, as the numbers of children who need adoptive families also continues to grow.
This means that more prospective adopters can get the training and support they need to become adopters.
It also means that our post adoption support to families continues to grow, as the new parents seek our advice and guidance.’
The charity, based in Birmingham, Oxford and Newcastle-under-Lyme, specialises in finding homes and families for children who are usually hard to place, such as children over 5 years, children with additional and special needs and children from ethnic minority communities.
