Councillor Pam Minshall was joined on Wednesday 8th July by keen junior historians from the 3rd South West Cheshire Cubs at the start of a serious of Town Trails planned for the summer season.
Crewe Historical Society and U3A History Group will be carrying out guided tours of Crewe throughout August in partnership with Crewe Town Council.
Two tours have already taken place on Sunday 19th July, Saturday 25th July, these were both well attended by people keen to learn of Crewe historical heritage.
Further tours are scheduled to take place on Sunday 2nd August, Saturday 8th August and Saturday 22nd August meeting on Memorial Square at 10.45am for an 11am start.
Tours will be led by local historians who have a wealth of knowledge about how Crewe came about, developed and some of the fascinating characters who made it all happen.
Councillor Pam Minshall, Chair of the Community and Environment Committee, said:
‘We are thrilled to be working with local societies to deliver the Town Trails.
Tours will be led by different historians each week and we hope that as many residents as possible will join and take part.’
In lieu of tickets, a donation can be made on the day to the Mayor of Crewe’s Official Charities for 2015 / 2016 – Hope House Children’s Hospices and St Luke’s Cheshire Hospice.
Tours of the Town and also several local landmarks are currently being planned to mark Heritage Open Days between 10th and 13th September.
