Ten members of The Team Chongi Academy, from Crewe, competed in a region competition on Sunday 8th December in Manchester.
The show proved to be very fruitful for the squad as they came away with no defeats and dominated the event.
The Team consisted of five Junior members: Jack Heath (11), Connor Phillips (10) Brandon Lindop (10), Charlie Heath (10) and Kenny Phillips (9), three female members: Jess Wrighton Kelly Jones & Emma Heath and two male seniors Damien Baddeley and Will Robinson.
They were watched by a large group of fellow team members who travelled to support the group and gave that added dimension. The spectators were treated to some excellent bouts and The Team Chongi Academy were, by far, the most superior team at the event.
Mark Russell, Head Coach said:
“What a great end to the year. I am so proud of the Team. What a result”!
“The Squad have worked so hard on their pre-fight preparation and this showed in the ring. Ten members of the team got to compete and their experience varied. We took four novice fighters with us to the event and I am thrilled with their debuts. Our more experienced entrants – like Brandon, Connor, Jess and Will – represented The Team Chongi Academy impeccably and left their opponents reviewing their fitness levels, resilience, technical ability and support group”.
”What has been equally pleasing is how effective The Team have worked today. When you have this volume of bouts, you have to rely heavily on the back room coaching team too. They do a lot of the preparation work when the corner team are in the ring and, without their assistance, this level of success is less likely. We have the coaching guidance of Wez Vickerman as well as two home grown British Champions -William Robinson and Shaun Hampton – to offer their experience and proven ability in the ring. We have created a very potent force at The Team Chongi Academy and we enjoy enabling every team member to reach their own potential. That’s what makes us stand out and why we have an excellent teaching and competing reputation.”
Mark finished on a cheerful note:
“I can tuck into my Christmas Dinner knowing that we have had a productive and satisfying year, both inside and outside of the ring. We have some exciting challenges lined up already for the New Year and I am sure that we will see some new faces as people set fresh challenges and resolve to do something to change themselves in a positive way. We look forward to you joining our Team and we will give you a warm welcome”.
