The Steve Phillips Charity Quiz Is A Roaring Success

The Peacock, NantwichBy Rach Griffiths

Crewe Alex Goalkeeper Steve Phillips has set himself up with a quest to raise as much money as possible for two charities this year which are Caudwell Children and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research by holding many events throughout Crewe and Nantwich.

On the evening of the 24th April there was an event held at the Peacock in Nantwich, the popular pub is the host to a regular weekly Wednesday night quiz and they teamed up with Steve to make this one a special Football themed night.

When we arrived local quiz master Quizzy Dave was there eager to start with some well thought out questions and keep all who played the quiz on the edge of their seats.

An auction took place for some fab Crewe Alex signed memorabilia which were on display next to the Cryptic quiz master.

Crewe Alex players such as Harry Davis, Kelvin Mellor, Max Clayton and many others were at the Quiz joining in with the fun and mirth in aid of the two great causes.

The Crewe News spoke to Steve and asked him how things were progressing in his fund raising challenge.

Steve said:
The last couple of months have been brilliant and I’m grateful for everyone who has joined in and helped us to raise the amount we have up to this point.
I’m hoping to end this fund raising drive at around the 20 thousand pounds mark and the way things are going we may reach it.
I’ve got some more events that are in the planning stages but we are still short of a few things which are volunteers to help at events.
We also need more donations of prizes for things like auctions and raffles so if there is anybody out there that would like to help out then I would love to hear from you.

Speaking later on Steve said:
What an incredible effort by everyone, a huge thanks to all that took part I’m lost for words.
