Playworld Of Shavington Damaged By Fire

Fire crews were called out in the early hours of this morning (22nd April) to a fire at the popular Playworld Kiddies play centre in Shavington.

50213_maxPlayworld is a favourite venue for countless families, it is both an indoor and outdoor play centre.
Messages of goodwill have been pouring on to the venues Facebook page for most of the morning.

The blaze is thought to have started around 04.45.
On arrival crews requested a further fire engine to attend the incident.

Four breathing apparatus wearers used one hose reel and one covering jet to extinguish the fire.
The gas and electric supplies were isolated and the adjacent properties were checked for smoke and heat travel using a thermal imaging camera.
Crews carried out ventilation to the mezzanine floor using a large industrial fan.
Crews damped down the area and checked for hot spots to make sure everything was safe.

Speaking on Facebook earlier manager Mandy Grinnell said:
“I am still waiting to find out the extent of the damage, Playworld will be closed until further notice”.
“I will be posting later when I know more particularly for those with parties booked as this is the most important thing for me at this point in time.
I am feeling very emotional at the moment but we will get through this.”

Mandy posted later on that the centre has suffered extensive smoke damage and will require a full refurbishment.
