A local woman is cycling the length and breadth of the UK in 2013 to raise money for the RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich & District branch.
Keen cyclist Carole Jackson’s next challenge is the Nantwich Triathlon on June 2nd. She has already completed a mountain bike route across the South Downs Way, and will be heading back onto the roads in July to tackle the 1000 miles from Lands End to John O’Groats, as well as fitting in another 1000 miles of cycling events held in various locations throughout the year.
These include the 100 mile ‘Cheshire Cat’ Sportive, 112 miles of ‘Flatout in the Fens’ and the 92 mile ‘Etape Cymru’.
“I’m very happy to combine my love of cycling and love of animals to raise some much needed funds for our local RSPCA.
The RSPCA Crewe, Nantwich & District Branch is run entirely by volunteers who all work tirelessly rescuing, rehabilitating and eventually rehoming neglected and abandoned animals from this area”.
says Nantwich resident Carole, 43.
The Branch supports the RSPCA Inspectorate by taking in rescued creatures, giving them love, patience and finding them all wonderful new homes. There are so many happy stories to tell every year, with 62 dogs, 25 cats and 3 rabbits rehomed during 2012, including Dora the Staffordshire Bull Terrier and her 12 puppies!
According to a Branch spokesperson:
“The rehoming process costs an estimated £500 per dog and £300 per cat so it’s easy to see why we spend over £50,000 per year on vet fees and kenneling.
Please come along and support the Triathlon on June 2nd and help us to help animals in this area;
We are always looking for volunteers, dog walkers, fundraisers and fosterers – all so important to our continued existence.”
Many of the volunteers and hopefully some of the ex-rescue dogs will be manning a stand and cheering Carole on during the Triathlon. They will be joined by representatives of Nantwich Veterinary Group, Carole’s sponsors for this event.
“We are always happy to support our local RSPCA who do a fantastic job rescuing and rehoming animals in the Crewe and Nantwich area”
says Alan Banks, a partner at the vets.
“We would like to wish Carole, who with her pet rabbits is a regular client of Nantwich Pet Vets, the best of luck for the Triathlon and her other cycling events throughout the summer to raise money for such a worthy cause.”
Carole’s challenges took on added poignancy when one of her beloved rabbits died suddenly earlier this year.
“Cherry was a RSPCA rescue bunny. I miss her terribly but I’m so glad I gave her a good life and she is now my inspiration if I ever feel like giving up.”
Carole would also like to thank Steve’s Cycles (Regents Park, Nantwich) for making sure her bikes are kept in top condition.
Jaymar Electricals, and Leonard Brothers Veterinary Centre who also provided funding for some of her other events.
