Curtain Call Productions present their latest show, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee this week.
If you want to “laugh your way to Christmas” you need to take a trip to the wonderful Nantwich Players Theatre on Love Lane between the 16th and 20th of December’ writes Steph Heath
This musical is a brilliant, hilarious and sometimes emotional story about a group of overachieving misfits battling to win the spelling championship of a lifetime in Putnam County, New York.
The spelling bee is the one place all the competitors can both stand out and fit in at the same time.
For those of you who have never heard of one, a spelling bee is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, with a varying degree of difficulty.
In the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, three adults help adjudicate the competition: the first, a nostalgic former spelling bee winner, the second is a slightly insane Vice Principal and last but not least, The Official Comfort Counsellor who is completing his community service!
I was privileged enough to be invited to watch the Monday dress rehearsal of this fabulous production. If you are lucky enough to have a ticket, I can tell you that the entire cast are outstanding, each one bringing their respective characters vividly to life. There is an enormous wealth of talent on stage – you will be hooked from start to finish. I would however advise you take some tissues along in order to dry the tears of laughter from your cheeks at regular intervals! At the time of publishing this article, there were a limited number of tickets available. To get yours contact Gail on 07790 970046.
Who are Curtain Call Productions?
Curtain Call Productions was founded by the show’s producer and YSD Theatre School Principal, Gail Montague and her son Joel and are based in Crewe.
The company was established to give local individuals of all ages the chance to ‘tread the boards’ in professional stage productions, tapping into the talent this area has to offer. To date they have produced spectacularly successful musicals – Beauty and the Beast, Rent, Footloose and The Producers to name a few.
Professional actor Joel is currently starring in the smash hit musical, Urinetown, at London’s Apollo Theatre in the west end after successes in productions including The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Billy Elliot. Even though Joel has been incredibly busy in the capital, he has made numerous round trips to Crewe in order to choreograph Spelling Bee and take part in rehearsals for Grease
Grease is the Word!
Curtain Call Productions are already gearing up for their next show, Grease, which will open in March 2015 at the Lyceum Theatre in Crewe.
Featuring all of your favourite numbers from ‘summer nights’ to ‘you’re the one that I want’, it is certain to be a ‘not to be missed’ spectacular
