A team of intrepid employees from Crewe based Health Shield – the award-winning health cash plan provider – are limbering up for a challenging triathlon, the second year in succession that the fundraisers have taken on the event in aid of Beating Bowel Cancer.
Thirty-seven Health Shield triathletes will attempt to conquer a 500 metre swim, a 20 kilometre cycle and a five kilometre run at the North West Triathlon event on Sunday 8 September.
As well as four Health Shield staff who are taking on all three parts of the triathlon, 11 teams of three have also been formed, with each person completing one element of the challenge.
They hope to raise over £2,000 for the charity, which was chosen after Health Shield finance director, Maxine Wilson, was diagnosed with bowel cancer and has fought the disease over the past 12 months.
Health Shield has pledged to match-fund the amount raised, bringing the final amount to in excess of £4,000. Last year, six teams tackled the triathlon, while donating over £9,000 to Beating Bowel Cancer.
The competitors – who this year include: chief executive, Jonathan Burton; chief risk officer, Courtney Marsh; and Mick Yates, non-executive director – will be accompanied by Maxine’s husband and son, Ian and Adam Wilson.
“Last year’s event was a huge success and one that we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Not only is it a perfect opportunity to raise vital funds for an extremely worthy cause, but it also gives us the chance to experience the fun and exhilaration of a triathlon.
It’s a fantastic effort, particularly for the brave four who are taking on the full triathlon!”
“It’s a great way to take the strong team spirit we have in the office and put it to good use during the three separate disciplines. Once again, it’s fantastic to see so many people getting involved – let’s hope all the hard work and training pays off!”
Beating Bowel Cancer is a UK charity which supports those affected by the disease.
The charity provides information and support to those suffering from the UK’s second biggest cancer killer.
