On Sunday 21st July, Tony Crowder from Silverdale organised a Charity Fishing Competition to raise money for children with special needs and proved how hobbies and interests are a great way to raise funds for local causes.
Tony along with 17 other anglers from Staffordshire and Cheshire, managed to raise a significant amount of funds for Newcastle-under-Lyme based charity The Peter Pan Nursery for Children with Special Needs.
The Charity Fishing Competition took place at the Michelin Fishing Pool and raised £623 which will go towards the charities fundraising target of £250,000 which needs to be achieved this year.
There were a range of prizes which are on offer which were all donated by local businesses and suppliers. The winner of the competition was Tony Crowder (event organiser), second place was awarded to Rob Gratton from Fenton and third to John Crowder of Silverdale.
A special prize was given to John Olender who was able to raise the most money for the special needs charity.
John managed to raise a total of £110 for the charity.
Speaking of his winner’s title and efforts to raise money for the charity Tony commented:
“we chose The Peter Pan Nursery as this year’s deserving charity simply because of the fantastic work they do for families in Staffordshire.
“We are all really pleased with the amount raised and would like to thank all the anglers who turned out on the day to fish for funds.
I managed to catch a fish weighing in at 29 pounds and 13 ounces.
I am very proud of my winner’s title; a great end to a great day.”
The charity is encouraging others in the community to run similar events throughout the year.
Sophia Baker Head of Fundraising believes more people should consider local charities whilst enjoying their hobbies,
“What better way to give something back to your local charity than by raising money by doing what you enjoy?.
Tony has proven how easy it is to support the cause whilst taking part in his usual hobby.”
Sophia continued, “Whether it is spinning, cycling, walking, reading or swimming there will be an opportunity to fundraise and help us reach our target of £250,000. If you need ideas or help in organising a sponsored event just get in touch!”
